Students investigated some of the structures animals have. We experienced what it would be like to not have thumbs. We learned about why insects have exoskeletons. We learned about how webbed feet help animals move through the water.
Students discussed the structures of plants and the function of the plant structures.
Students observed animal families and how animals care for each other in families.
Students learned about how they look similar but not exactly like their parents. We talked about the physical characteristics that we have in common with our parents.
Students learned about the ways parents take care of their babies (Love, Feed, Protect and Teach). We read about animal babies and how their parents care for them. Then we made a chart comparing the ways parents care for their babies.
Students saw pictures of Mrs. Bick as a baby, child, teenager and adult. We talked about how we grow and change and how our needs are met as babies by our parents and as we grow we can do more things on our own.
Students learned about the structures of organisms are for meeting the needs of survival, obtaining food, water, air and space.
Students talked about what living things need to survive. We discovered that animals and plants need the same things to survive.
We began a new unit called Exploring Organisms. We talked about what an organism is-a living thing. Then we decided how we could tell if something was living or non living. We also planted bush bean seeds and we're observing their growth.
