Students were given a mystery mixture to separate and figure out what was mixed together.
They decided to use screens, filters and evaporation to help them identify the components of the mixture. Students practiced their e-learning/snow day procedure. They practiced how to get to the link, click on it, read the directions and do the work independently so that when we have a snow day or e-learning day, they are ready.
Students used chromatography to see how colors are mixed together.
Students observed the petri dishes we set up several days ago and saw salt crystals.
Students continue to investigate what conditions affect dissolving. Today we investigated the temperature of the water being used.
Students continue to learn about how solids and liquids interact by focusing on dissolving. Today we dissolved a sugar cube and sugar grains to see which would dissolve first.
Students investigated different methods for separating a solid liquid mixture. We tried screens, funnels and had to set up some for evaporation.
Students mixed solids and liquids together and observed that some solids dissolve and some do not.
