Students read a story "Measuring Penny" and documented how Lisa measured her dog Penny and what units she used and whether those units were standard or not standard. Today we investigated how much water a sponge could hold.

During STEM, students began building their guinea pig obstacle courses. During science, we investigated how long it takes an ice cube to cool down water.
Students investigated how scientists measure temperature.
Students investigated if a soda can really contains the amount of liquid it says on the can.
Students practiced measuring volume of different containers. We also did our STEM lesson from yesterday, designing an obstacle course for the guinea pigs.
Students continued to practice measuring volume using metric units and tools.
Students finished their March Mammal Madness picks and we continued measuring volume.
We continued to pick animals for the March Mammal Madness.
We began a fun activity looking at animals. We are going to participate in March Mammal Madness. Scientists at Arizona State University created a bracket and simulated "competitions" between animals. Students choose the animal they think will win based on diet, body coverings, defense mechanisms and where the animal lives. Each week we will get updates on which animal was victorious. Hopefully it will be a fun way to learn about animals.
