Students took data as ice melted and evaporated. We discovered that the temperature stayed the same for much of the phase changing.

Students observed that air has mass in the balloon balance activity we did on Monday. Today we are learning about the particles of solids, liquids and gases.

We began with a discussion about solids, liquids and gases. We began a lab on Friday and finished it on Monday. The lab was about measuring matter using different tools.
Homework- In their email- States of Matter reading and Questions due Wed. On Friday, students presented their posters about how different communities around the U.S. are working to conserve the environment.
On Monday, we reviewed for our science test by playing kahoot. On Tuesday, students took their science test and also took a pre-assessment for our next unit. Today in science, we began our new unit, Structures and Properties of Matter, by discussing matter and then going on a matter digital scavenger hunt to find solids, liquids, gases, and objects made out of many materials. No homework Students continued working on their community posters about how a community has helped the environment. They will be presenting their posters tomorrow.
Homework- Brain Pop video and quiz about Humans and the Environment and any poster work that didn't get finished in class Students finished going over their study guide for their test next Tuesday. We also began a project learning about different U.S. communities and how they protect the environment. Project will be worked on today and Thursday in class. Anything not done in class time is homework. Projects will be presented on Friday.
Homework- Brain Pop video and quiz-Humans and the Environment (Thank you to the PTO for our Brainpop subscription!) Students began a review of the Earth and Space System unit with a study guide. We will have a test over this unit on Tuesday, Nov. 14th.
Homework- Brain pop Humans and the Environment video and quiz (due Friday) and study for the test 5th grade earned a free day today. They voted to watch videos. They viewed Crash Course Science videos about the 4 spheres of earth, the water cycle and water conservation.
