Students did a simulation to show how much food a first level consumer has to eat to survive and how that compares to other consumers. We also observed the change in the survival of an organism when competition exists between animals. Today we learned about decomposers and scavengers such as worms and mites.
No homework Students earned a free day on Monday for their behavior. They voted to watch a Bill Nye video about the food web. Today we learned about the energy pyramid, types of consumers, and food chains.
Homework due Friday 1- Riverbank picture in email, list 5 biotic things and 5 abiotic things in the picture 2- Science News on the brain, read the newspaper, do the crossword puzzle and write a summary paragraph about an article of your choice. We learned about biotic and abiotic factors in class and we learned what biotic things do that make them living. We also learned that biotic organisms rely on abiotic factors to survive.
Homework due tomorrow: 1-Owl Reading in email 2- Brain pop Nitrogen cycle video and quiz Students simulated the nitrogen cycle by going to stations and learning about nitrogen moves through the atmosphere, soil, dead organisms, living organisms, animal waste and water.
Homework due Friday: 1-Owl reading in email 2-Brain pop video Nitrogen cycle and quiz One of our chicks hatched overnight. We think that the egg was incubating under the mother hen for several days before the eggs were collected and brought to us. We expect the rest of the eggs to hatch 10 days.

Homework- Owl reading in their email due Friday Students had a guest speaker from Crop Ambassadors. Mrs. Jackson talked with us about farming and how farmers prevent soil erosion and water poilution by planting and irrigating crops differently.
Students reviewed for their Human Body test. The test will be Thursday.
