Students investigated the ability of different kinds of paper to fold.
Thursday's Kindergarten group had science today (Friday) due to Purim events. Today we investigated using paper and discovered which type of paper was best to write on with different writing tools.
Students began learning about paper today. We looked at lots of different types of paper from wax paper, tissues, cardboard and paper towels. Then we looked for items in the classroom that are made out of paper.
Thursday's class didn't have science due to Mrs. Bick's absence.
Friday's class earned a free day for their behavior. They chose to watch a Magic School Bus video. Students made plywood out of pieces of wood and glue.
Students used sawdust, shavings and a glue made from cornstarch to create particle board. We'll bring it home when it dries.
Students watched a video of whittling wood. We learned that wood shavings and sawdust come off of wood as it is shaped. We put shavings and sawdust in water and we watched the sawdust and shavings sink as they got waterlogged. Then we let them sit out to evaporate.
Students will be sanding the wood to try to shape it.
Students continued learning about sinking wood by counting the number of paper clips it took to sink each kind of wood.
